WHAT A REUNION !! Many of you traveled so far to join us and we thank you. Karen Axelrad from Germany and Mats Persson from Sweden. Many came from the East Coast and Debbie Travis from Hawaii. You are all so wonderful .. this is indeed a VERY SPECIAL CLASS ! Kent Richland was a wonderful M.C. and from all the messages posted , I think everyone had a great time. We sure did !!! Please send photos by Jpeg and I will do my best to post them ASAP. I thought we had a photo album working for you to download your pictures, but something went haywire. So for now I will be making pages of photos to view. You will find them in the section 40th Reunion. I know I already sent some of you the password for our "reunion photos" area. If we get it back up the same password will work.

Janie, Wendy, Ileen, Bonnie and Janie R., WOW! What a great evening full of memories and frineds. Thank you so much for your incredible work to give us such a great party. It was so very much fun. The biggest kick was watching everyone pull out their reading glasses over and over as they tried to see the name tags on those they couldn't recognize. Ha!! I think we are all sorry we didn't have a week to talk to everyone. Janie R - thanks for the great idea of contacting the teachers. They really seemed to enjoy it and to feel haonored. A FABULOUS SUCCESS!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU ALL! I can't wait to see the photos. Love you - and hope to see you again soon.

My highest compliments to the Reunion Committee, Bonnie, Ileen, Wendy and Janie, as they orchestrated the most incredible Reunion of the warmest, most sincere, and beautiful group of classmates. After 40 years I still felt the love and comradery that we shared during those formative years. It was wonderful to reconnect and share memories and current events. I was fortunate to have one of my favorite teachers, Mrs. Tsuda, attend the reunion, too--thanks to Janie Redmond Mueller. Kudos to ALL those whose efforts did not go unnoticed by any of us. I hope to remain in touch with one and all.

Three cheers for the grandest, hardest working reunion committee ever!!! I don't know what was in those gift packages given out on Saturday night, but I hope it was worthy of the tremendous effort the committee put into arranging and hosting such a glorious evening. Myself, I behaved shamefully. As soon as I arrived at the Beach Club, I abandoned my husband of thirty-seven years and reverted to teen-aged mode. I stumbled into the first line I saw, looked around, and was transfixed by the most beautiful faces I'd seen in forty years. Val's next day picnic (although slightly blighted by the misguided Spartan who brought her dog who then proceeded to try to do something unpleasant to the host Dalmatian's foreleg...sorry, Val, next time I'll leave her home) was a wonderful afternoon of relaxing, chatting and reconnecting. I think that having get togethers in two different venues on two different days is a swell idea! I loved seeing all of you; those I recognized, and those who held still long enough for me to read your name-tags. Looking foreward to the next reunion and proud to be a Spartan, I remain, Judy Gaynor Soloski

Is anyone else from our class living in New Mexico? If so, please let me know. We live in the mountains of Lincoln County, in Capitan, where Smokey Bear was found 50 years ago and scene of the 2004 Peppin Fire. Horse racing fans may recognize Ruidoso, which is half an hour from us; and historians will undoubtedly know Lincoln, where Billy The Kid gained notoriety during the Lincoln County War...which continues to rage on, albeit over slightly different causes. I hope to hear from Nancy Walsh, who introduced me to Blues and the folk duo Joe & Eddie. DeeDee Grady, Laura Livingston, and MC Brill are among many I remember fondly and look forward to seeing at the reunion.

Re: A quick database report on classmates living in the state of Washington... Hello Classmates from Washington, and everywhere else, too, Here is a quick database report on those of you we have found living up in the state of Washington: We just heard from Mike Mandel in Medina, WA - he is thinking about coming down for the reunion...so I took a quick search in our database and found that Mike has lots of company up in Washington/WA from our class, and some of them have already confirmed that they are coming down for the reunion: Terry Allen lives in Port Ludlow & is working on coming down -- "M.C." Brill lives in Coupeville & is working on it -- Beverly Brownell lives in Puyallup & IS coming down -- Dick Burkett lives in Poulsbo -- Carter Harrington lives in Mercer Island & IS coming down -- Denise Harris lives in Bainbridge Island -- Rocky Knickerbocker lives in Freeland & IS coming down -- Shelley Lawrence lives in Seattle -- Linda LeGrand lives in Redmond -- Bonney Lindsey lives in Wenatchee -- Mike Mandel lives in Medina & is thinking out it -- Lea Molis lives in Seattle (but has been in Greece working on the Olympics - she returns home Oct. 13, just a few days too late to make it to the reunion) -- Judy Nelson lives in Sammamish -- Sylvia Parriott lives in Seattle -- Mike Pehlke lives in Yakima & IS coming down -- AND "Still Missing", the last time we could locate them, Nancy MacTernan was in Redmond, WA and Pam Pattison was in Olalla, WA. Hope that all of you Washingtonians, and, of course, everyone else, no matter what state you now live in, will make an effort to come down, up, across or over for the reunion. If you are trying to decide which one to come to - the 40-Year or the 50-Year, I would say, "Try to make this one". Hope to see all of you there - just 5 weeks away - WOW! Big hugs, Janie (Harris) Hansen, 40-Year Reunion Committee, Database/Circulation Manager

I was so happy to find out about this site. I remember SO MANY of you and even had contact over the years with two gals, Jane Gottlieg and Lolly DePaulo Vaidya and I don't know how mnay "non members" are coming, but I really want to come!!! (I graduated in the Winter class of '65). I hope more people will want to reconnect. Somepeople shy away from reunions but truly, what closer pull do you have to any other time in your youth than this. I think it's a phenomenon!!!! I could name about two people I went to college with, but the jr high and high school people, there's an undeniable bond. Hope it's ok to "crash" in on your event. When I saw names like Jananne Gruver, Bill Seckler, Gretchen Olsen, Eileen Cohen, etc......it's like old home week (or at least the "old" part now). do you believe we are middle aged? Bye for now. Omigawd! Stumbling on this site was really touching for me! Even though I was in the class behind you, 1965 (which see, I'm in "old farts" pages), I remember virtually ALL OF YOU from Revere & would love to hear from anyone in my Nor Cal area now- the San Francisco Bay Area/ Berkeley, or beyond. I've had a most entertaining life, epic really, and would be pleased beyond imagining to exchange stories. I will be writing to some of you whose email addresses I see here, with pictures. Please do write to me too. Oh Dr. Newman, I used to work with you in San Fran at UCSF and didn't realize you were in this class too - what a hoot. Thanks so much to the folks making the website. I just stopped by quickly as I still do not know if I will be able to attend. There is so much happening and it seems to take up a lot of time. I am preparing for a local art show at the Jewish Community Center and it is on the coming up of the Jewish New Year and Spritual Renewal...and of course the New Year and its events happen when the class reunion is happening makes getting away a problem....I am still working on it. I would like to know, as a result, when would be the latest time that I can let you know about coming to the reunion....sorry for the problems but I am sure that there are many of us out there who would like to come but distance and time seem to keep us at odds for the moment. You guys are doing great work and I say hi to everyone -it is fun to read what everyone has to say. Warm regards, Rona

John--great idea--wish I could play. Take solace that none of us were as dorky as we looked in those pictures. Isnt it amazing that so many of those in the 'in-crowd' (or so they seemed to me then) are on the 'Missing Spartans' list? Could it be that they STILL dont want to hang out with the rest of us dorks? Seriously--hope more come off the missing persons list--a big turnout will make the reunion even more memorable. Alan

Posting the elementary school pictures was a great idea! One correction. In the Marquez Elementary picture, the teacher bottom right is Lepska Verzeano (sp?)Miller. She was one of the wives of THE Henry Miller who lived in the Palisades, and I believe one of their children was in my sister's class at Pali.

Hello Everyone, I am loving re-connecting with Karin Liebhold Higgins, Janie Redmond Mueller, Tom Cluster, Alan Newman and David Moody by e-mail. Probably on a much more genuine level than we ever did when we were in high school together. John Raskin and I have rekindled a friendship in the last ten years and I saw him when I would visit my mother in Santa Cruz. She died in January, and John came down for her memorial service, which was wonderful. Life is full of twists and turns for all of us--not the straight line "they" (whoever they were) told us it would be! Some of it has been real hard, and a lot is very rich. I live in the boonies about 25 miles west of Boston. My daughter, Dina, is 21(!!) and is at the University of Iowa. I am remarried, to a warm bear of a man who gives great hugs. He "got" retired (canned) a year and half ago, hence our move to scenic rural Hudson. I have three stepchildren in this marriage, and two from my first marriage (wrote my dissertation and a book on Becoming a Stepfamily). I am a psychologist in private practice, partly here in Hudson, and partly in Cambridge. I love my work, but would love to work less and just play in my garden, but it is not to be for awhile yet. Can anyone send me e-mail addresses for (or send mine to): Sue Lederer Geiger Joy Braun (someone said she is here in New England) Kent Richland Susan Paul Davis Claire Woodson Nancy Able Nancy Kleckner Patricia (I must have been Pat in high school since that is what everyone is calling me) Papernow

It is fun to read everyone's comments. Even though I was only there for one year and Uni before, it seems so strange to hear how much people reconnect with their past....I left So. Calif in Jan 1970 and have lived from NY to Alaska and many states imbetween. I do not recognize LA anymore but felt very happy to grow up and be a part of the So. Calif free spirit. I am sure that all of us would not be who were are today if we had grown up in other places. Palisades are still beautiful in looks - it is good to see people participating in their community. I have made life difficult for myself by all the changes and free spirit that I have about learning as much about life as possible. It is fun to see that other people are living beyond the Palisades/LA borders also. Both of my brothers went through Revere and Palisades but my life there was very short and one of being unsure of oneself, being the new kid on the block. I also wanted to let the reunion committe know that I still have not received my reunion package and am still awaiting it's arrival - has it been sent??? My best to all of you, Rona Kevitt Mandel

I am happy to report I just spoke to the Normandins !!! MR. NORMANDIN was everyones favorite "Metal Shop" Teacher at Paul Revere and Pali ! He is enjoying retirement at the age of 86 with his wonderful wife of 63 years Tina. They have a Ranch in Bonsall, California which is near Fallbrook. MR. NORMANDIN was one of the original founders of Teentours. Teentours took buses of teenagers around the United States on a 6 week tour every Summer. How many others remember going on Teentours ??....camping out, hotels every 4 days, seeing Niagara Falls, Mount Rushmore, and the look on the waitress' faces when we would pull into a very small town with 3 buses of hungry Teenagers !!! Good Times !!!

Hi Janie Redmond Mueller, In response to your message asking the Reunion Committee how we can handle contributions for Faculty Members attending our Reunion...We are very sorry but there is no way The Reunion Committee can handle the task. We'd suggest your committee figures out how many dollars in contributions you will need and then work until you meet your goal. Janie Harris Hansen is already swamped collecting the payments that come in. Had we known earlier about your wonderful project, we probably would have been able to help. We are very sorry, but we can not be responsible for collecting contributions.

I loved high school because it was such a magical carefree time and the website and music float me back to all those fond memories at Pali Hi. I am sorry that I will not be able to attend the reunion as it sounds like such fun. For the past 32 years we have been living in Victoria, British Columbia where we have a small vineyard and, soon to open, winery. Unfortunately the reunion will take place at about the same time we will be picking our grapes. Hi to everone, give us a call and come visit and taste some of our cool climate wine. Sherry

It's great to begin to reconnect with some of the best friends in the world--my classmates from Pali High! I've been away too long and have a lot of catching up to do. I'd love to hear from you, where ever you are. My husband of 23 years, Barry, passed away several years ago, but it took me until just last year to make the decision to move closer to my two children. I now reside in Sonora (Gold Country, not Wine Country), in the beautiful foothills of the Sierra Nevadas, just north of Yosemite. I'm minutes away from my son and his family and only two hours away from my daughter and her family. I can't believe that anyone would remember me from forty years ago, but if you do I'd love to hear from you. I look forward to seeing as many classmates as possible at the Reunion this October!

Received an enthusiastic message today from former faculty member Ritchie Verhaegen Musick. She lives in Alaska now. She says that her first year at Pali was "my very first year teaching...straight out of UCLA. Most of my students were sophomores (Biology) but I had a senior registration room. My first class meeting was with that group of seniors, and I was terrified, but Farnham had showed me how to lay out all that paperwork in alphabetical order on the tables so I could act like I had it all under control. It was the beginning of a wonderful three years there at Pali!"

Glad to hear Nancy Able and Marcy Lafferty are found! Nancy and I were Girl Scouts together, and I last saw Marcy in a performance of Love Letters in San Francisco. She was very good. On the faculty search front, today I received a phone call from (my former Spanish teacher) Frank Almeida. He told me a story about a painting by Pali's first art department chair, Cliff Elger. It came very close to being thrown out accidentally, but it now hangs in the Principal's Office at Pali.

What a difference a day makes! Today, the day after the Memorial Day weekend, was a bonanza in e-mail and postal mail for new faculty information. Miss Bruno, who posted to this message board, is a delightful "found" voice. Mr. (Art) Thomas and Mr. (Robert) Pann sent welcome new information, and a posting to the Uni Class of 61 Web site yielded valuable new leads, too. At least four of us in the Bay Area plan to get together on Sunday, June 6th to have dinner and compare notes. Anybody nearby--faculty or classmates--want to join us?

Congratulations on your wonderful web site! What fun it was for me to look at all of the pages you have created. It brought back so many great memories. Thanks to Dr. Nancy Kleckner for telling me that you were inquiring about my whereabouts. I thought I would catch you up on a little of what I have been doing over the years. First, I had to laugh when I read someone's comments about feeling old: It's been 47 years since I graduated from high school, 42 years since I graduated from UCLA, 35 years since I left Palihi in 1969 when I received an N.D.E.A Fellowship to go on to graduate school; 34 years since graduate school, and four years since I retired. I moved from Westwood in 1970 to the island of Alameda (Oakland-Bay area) where I was a founding faculty member and counselor/instructor for ten years. Since then I have lived in the gold country off of Highway 49 for the last 24 years. I have greatly enjoyed working as a counselor/instructor at Columbia College. I continue to work part-time. Since leaving Palihi, I have remained in touch with several Palihi graduates from several different classes and have really enjoyed staying in contact with them over the years. I have had a great life so far and am still very active, enjoying golf, serving as a member of the Board of Directors at the Twain Harte Golf Club, participating in service organizations in my community including serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Sonora Branch of the American Association of University Women. I am sorry that I will not be able to attend your 40th Reunion, but I would love to hear from anyone who cares to send me an E-mail message. My very best wishes to each of you and have a great reunion! Most sincerely, Elsie Bruno, Palihi Faculty 1962-1969

Just in the past week I have reconnected with Beverlee Katz (who lives maybe 6 miles from me!), Kendra Lince and Pam Deats! Val Markowitz and I found each other a few years ago thru the Pali Hi email list, thru which I also found Janie Redmond. Alan Newman and I have been in touch since the 20-year reunion. This is so much fun! Looking forward to seeing you all in October. Someone needs to bring a yearbook so we can say, "Oh, yeah, NOW I remember who you are!" It's been a fun, interesting, scary and rewarding time of remincence, finding the web site and thinking about our 40 year reunion--so many familiar names and "spots of time" to think about and reflect upon. I try to think back to "who and what" I was in high school and can't really get a true picture--but no regrets, I had good friends, a wonderful family and a high school that felt comfortable. Since I've been a high school arts teacher of photography for the past sixteen years (IDYLLWILD ARTS ACADMEY, formerly ISOMATA) I've had a spectacular time reliving those high school experiences through my students. I relish supporting, encouraging, challenging and loving them for their individual and always unique interpretations of the world. I also had my most spiritual and beautiful experience of my life six years ago--I had my first child, Makai, a wonderful boy, full of love, joy and a pure sense of the world. He has surely been my greatest teacher and I thank the world beyond expression for giving me the joy and love of being a father. I'm truly looking forward to the reunion.

Wow!!!! Many thanks to each of you who had a part in making this awesome and fun website a reality. I'm taking great delight in tripping down memory lane. Loved who shared about a dear HS friend, Barbara Burton. We shared many great times together. May have info on connecting with Linda "Jolly Green" Lord and Wendy Vieth. Wendy married Linda's older brother, John Lord. I will get busy and see what I can discover. Goooooooooo SPARTANS!!! Ahhh, those exciting times at our football games in our senior year. What a kick to take league. Namaste, Kathi Layng

SPARTANS...we just heard from Big Brother and Website creator Bob Brann. You do not have to put in your email address to post a message here...your choice. But,if you really want to re-connect with old friends, post the email address.....right Gary Gordon and Janie Redmond Mueller?? Bonnie

notice that I have no email address listed in this posting... That's because I didn't fill in that blank... It takes a little getting used to, but your message board is pretty forgiving. You aren't "charged" for omitting your email. But your Spartan Friends also won't be able to email you as readily. Posting your email address is optional.

Hi Gary Gordon !! Welcome and thank you for posting a message....I agree we are still 25 plus or minus a few !! I would like to encourage others to post messages and don't worry about your email address being on here. This site will most likely only be read by The Spartan Class. We are a bit hard to find ...and Janie, Wendy, Ileen and myself have our email addresses posted in many places and have had no bothersome email from it. So come on, take the plunge and post a message. It's a great way to re-connect. If your friends see your email on here, they will surely contact you. Gary, we shared many Homeroom Classes at Pali and Paul Revere....Janie Harris Hansen you and I...it was always alphabetical !! Looking forward to seeing you in October at our 40th Reunion !!! Bonnie

In anticipation of our class reunion this year, I want to propose a nice little mutual project. I'm thinking it would be rewarding to track down as many of our high school teachers as we can find and suggest that they combine a reunion with ours. Nice for them. REALLY nice for us! Mr. Hedges and Ms. Herbst (now Orton), as well as members of some other classes, have already sent great clues. We have contact information for about 25 former faculty members. I'd like to call upon classmates to form a "detective force" to see if we can find more. Anyone who can supply leads is welcome to contact me directly.

The following list of names from your missing spartans list have last names I recognize from our "Islander" classmates, I'll go through our roster and see who we may be able to contact for you. Jon Auricchio Karen Axelrad Greg Barnard Bruce Brodie William Delameter Robin Forman Ron Grosman Tyler Henshaw Steve Joffee Judy Strong Also, Tyler Henshaw was a close friend of my cousin, I have an email out to him to see if he's still in contact with Tyler. Barbara Burton is a friend/neighbor from the 50's 60's, I've pretty much lost track of her, but she LOVED Pali, and I think she'd like to be invited to your reunion if she knew about it. Any additional help someone can offer finding her might facilitate that.

I spoke to Barbara Burton in '90 when she was living in Colorado, married, and making and selling jewelry. I spoke to her again in about 2000 and her father had passed away, her husband had passed away, and she was preparing to move from Colorado to the Islands off Florida... I think maybe the Bahamas... She was still grieving the loss of her husband and was quite vague... in fact, she barely knew who I was. I had to remind her of our connections as children, and still, she seemed vague. Her sister, Cameron Tenille Burton, "Camie" lived in Newport Beach, was/is married to a 'Ridell' (I could have the spelling wrong...) She is/was a photographer, was spending a good deal of time in Colorado has 4 children, should be fairly easy to find, and she would know exactly were Barbara is now. Camie and Barbara were cousins of the 70's pop singing star of "The Captain and Tenille". Following these "leads" might make Barbara fairly easy to find... You have the spelling of her married name of 1990 and 2000 correct in the "missing spartans" section of this website. Good luck.

Hey all you Spartans...we need PHOTOS of you and other classmates including the Class Graduation Photos from Palisades Elementary, Marquez Elementary, Canyon Elementary, etc. to post on our site. We'd like to post photos of Spartan classmates including old Birthday parties where at least 2 Spartans are in the photo. Please send a scan of the photo to me at BWorley@cox.net and I'll do my best to put it on our site. If any of you visit the Uni site you'll see our goal. The Uni site has been up and running for over 2 years and has taken many hours to put together..please be patient this is very time consuming. Also please send old club photos...Polynesians, Shardanee's etc. Please scan and send whatever you'd like to see on the site. This is a class effort, please pass the word. Also please post a message even if you just let us know the city you live in.... Don't be shy.... each and everyone of our classmates is just as IMPORTANT as the next...WE TOGETHER ARE THE SPARTAN CLASS. Bonnie Graveline Worley BWorley@cox.net
